The magic words

Speak just 3 words of Greek and it will open doors everywhere for you. The Greeks have a difficult language which is rarely spoken outside their own country. They are therefore delighted when a tourist makes the effort to approach them in their own language. If you want to make good contacts, this is undoubtedly the key.


Be careful of making certain signs and gestures that may be misunderstood or taken the wrong way. Nodding your head means “no” in Greek, and shaking your head means “yes”. If you wave your hand energetically in front of your face, you are putting a curse on somebody. So never wave to anyone to attract their attention in the street!
