The Greek islands / The Cyclades An archipelago of 56 islands (of which 24 are inhabited) in the Aegean Sea. They are called the Cyclades (kyklos in Greek) because they form a circle of approximately 300 km around Delos, the sacred island where Apollo was born. The Cyclades cover a surface area of 2,500 km2 and have a total population of 100,000 inhabitants.
